An Older Demographic’s New Interest In Twitter and Facebook

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Suddenly during the course of the last year or two, it seems like just about everyone’s parents have a social media account.

Not only are they joining the site, but they’re extremely active on it too. Every time I log onto Facebook now, I’m just about sure to see a friend’s parent in my status updates section.

I see this as a great thing. It seems like people are reconnecting with friends from the past who they haven’t been in touch with in years. This is exactly why I love sites like Facebook to begin with, and I’m glad to see that older Internet users are taking advantage of the platform.

I still get a kick out of the fact that parents are uploading photo albums, filling out profiles, and commenting on pictures. Seeing them update their status a few times per day is very amusing to me too.

These are the same people who took years to get acclimated to the web, and it looks like they’re finally taking full advantage of the fact that they no longer need to pick up the phone in order to reach out to someone.

Is this just a passing fad amongst baby boomers or are the Facebook accounts here to stay? While I’m not exactly sure, I can tell you that their use of these services is a true testament to the benefits of social media and I’m really glad to see this.

The irony of this all couldn’t be more obvious. Facebook was intended for college kids, and now some of their parents are using the service more than they are. Maybe their parents will soon jump aboard the craze? Stranger things have happened.

Be on the lookout for active parents on these sites. In less than a year’s time, the landscape has massively changed for the better. Let’s see where things go from here.

In addition to technology, the writer additionally frequently blogs about security blankets for babies and custom fleece throws and blankets.

Facebook And FriendFeed

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Well, I’m sure that you’ve heard the news now that FriendFeed has been bought by Facebook. This is working to put Facebook on the mapping for real-time search queries just like on Twitter. It sure does look like that Facebook is moving after Twitter, hard-core.

The brand-new real-time lookup will be a leap forward for Facebook. They don’t have to search over long complicated updates to see what is going on, but now it’ll be in clear concise coordinate tabs to help you bound between friends list and FriendFeeds.

This is very key because for a long time Facebook is fallen are weak Twitter in momentum. Twitter has become the only place that a lot of people go to to find up to the second news on their preferred topics. This is the way that the Cyberspace is going. Outside from Google spiders that take 70 minutes to five minutes to find pages, and more towards user driven search engines. I then discovered myself looking Twitter instead of Google what I want to find out something.

Now you’ll be able to jump all over the Facebook search engine just like you would with Twitter is a list of updated news reports even from someones that are not on your supporters list.

To see more and more from Facebook as they bring into this new functionality that they have and I’m sure you’ll see more and more packaging of this leap advancing from Facebook.

What it all comes down to though, I’m still going to use twitter at this guide to ping my community that I have published this post. I guess… have to hold a little bit longer until Facebook and FriendFeed get things up and ranging.

There’s no uncertainty about it though, this is where the Internet is going towards real-time searches because people want things faster and faster. Just look at broadband Internet and its expansion of the past 4 years. Pretty soon we’ll be beaming information from one person to another instantaneously.

We will just have to see how Facebook and FriendFeed contend with twitter and what routes things head in the coming. One thing’s for sure, this business plan is worth zillions to both companions. Who will gain? We will see.
